Dr S. is extremely knowledgeable and can put things into Laymans terms for a better understanding of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. All the staff is personable and very helpful, this is a great place if you need the therapy and is much different than a hospital setting. It is actually a suite on-site the “Renova” Center in Ghent Norfolk! I cannot say enough good things about this place and what they’re doing to help people that need it.

I am a U.S. Army combat veteran with numerous traumatic brain injuries (TBI). I have tried many different types of treatments and therapies to deal with my TBI symptoms and I can say unequivocally that the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) that I received at Tier-1 was the most powerful, life-changing relief I have experienced. The process is effortless, painless, enjoyable and really works. More importantly it keeps working long after you finish your time in the chamber since it has a deep and lasting effect on how your body heals and regenerates. The staff are all extremely courteous and professional. It was both an honor and a pleasure to work with them.

I started Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in late September 2024. I completed 40 treatments over an eight-week span. I wanted to wait a bit (six weeks) after completing the HBOT sessions to leave a review so I could determine the extent of my improvement. First, I immediately noted changed in my body physically and mentally. The initial physical or nervous system changes I noted was actually increased discomfort in my shoulders. I’ve had surgery in both shoulders about ten years ago. I was cautious as the initial sensation was a worsening of discomfort. I reported this to the staff and they ensured I was aware of the physiologic changes going on in my body. With the HBOT, I was in essence “waking up” nerves around my shoulder that had sort of gone dormant due to minimal use over the previous ten years. I continued the therapy and within another two-weeks, the discomfort was decreased extensively. I used to wake up nightly due to shoulder discomfort. After roughly 4 weeks or therapy, I was able to sleep through the night without shoulder pain. Now, six weeks after completing therapy, I am still able to sleep through the night without any shoulder discomfort. Second, I’ve struggled with sleep for years. Mostly due to headaches and shoulder pain. I also seldom dream while sleeping. I’d say I recall having dreamt maybe 2 or 3 times per month. After a couple weeks of HBOT, I was dreaming nightly. This therapy works! It was waking up (oxygenating) my nervous system and it felt great. And it still does. I have less brain fog and have greater mental clarity. I don’t know if this is purely HBOT or a combination of factors such as HBOT and improved sleep, but I don’t care. I am ever great fuel of this therapy and the team, Tier 1 Therapies, that provide it. I felt safe and monitored before, during, and after my therapy. One can expect roughly 90 minutes max per session. 10-15 minutes changing clothes, loading the chamber and getting to depth to start therapy. 60 minutes at depth on oxygen. Then 10-15 minutes surfacing, unloading the chamber, and getting changed back into the clothes you arrived in. It did take a commitment on my part, but it has been so worth that effort. Positives: Less pain. Improved sleep. Increased mental clarity. Increased confidence. Increased mobility leading to more effort in the gym. Improved quality time with my family and friends. Negative: And I was warned about this by the staff - My vision actually improved! However, six weeks later, I have needed my “readers” once again. But, as I stated, the staff warned me of this. Thanks you T1T! You are making a difference in peoples lives and you all are very much appreciated. If you have the opportunity to participate in this therapy, I most highly recommend it!
