My daughter went to the ER with a kidney stone on 12/6/2014 while attending Mississippi State. She received fast, competent compassionate care. The doctors and staff listened to her and helped her not only with medical diagnosis, but also in getting her prescriptions filled. OCH has since been very helpful with the insurance. My daughter encountered doctors and medical staff who actual care, something almost unheard of in our home state of Texas.

My children received services there. Son: received excellent care from staff on 4th floor, outpatient surgery, and never had to guess what was next. Daughter: delivered my grandson there. Turned into a critical situation. L&D, 4th floor, and nursery staff was excellent in care provided. Over 6 words on Wyatt and 5 was with my daughter. Care never is substandard. All staff throughout hospital including lab, ER, dietary, environmental, and other departments go beyond what is required of them. Those doing the hands-on care rock! I lived in Caledonia and would pass Baptist to drive to OCH to ensure my family got the best care!

My daughter, while being a student at Miss State was complaining of a burning sensation in her upper right quadrant of the abdoman. I drove to Starkville and took her to OCH ER. When we were called back to see the Dr., a Nurse Practicioner came in and immediately requested a CAT scan. I have some medical experience as an EMT and I became suspicious that this scan was being ordered when my daughter didn't even have an elevated temp. I began to question why an expensive scan, why not an ultrasound. I told the NP that they were not going to perform this scan until we got the blood test results. We waited about 40 minutes until the blood tests came back. While we were waiting we had two different techs from radiology come in the room to take my daughter to get a CAT scan. I told them "no" both times. Blood tests came back all normal. My daughter had indigestion. It's sad that these county hospitals have to push these very expensive tests when not necessary. If I hadn't been there with her, they would have really run the bill up. I called BCBS. my insurance company and they didn't care. I wonder how many others (Miss State students) have been duped by this scam. Where's the integrety?????????

I’m ONLY giving this “hospital” two stars because the lady behind the desk in the emergency room was an angel. That second star is for her and her only. As for the rest, you’d be better off going to the clinic on 12 and then having them refer you somewhere other than OCH. At least that’s what I wound up doing. Also, be prepared to receive bills THREE. YEARS. LATER. after being told that your account is paid off. I won’t put this on the doctors, but the way the hospital is run enables them to do their jobs properly. This place honestly needs to completely start from the ground up. It’s sad.

Went to the ER on May 12 at 8 am with severe abdominal pain. I didn't have to wait long for staff to take me back to a room. The on call physician, Dr. Michael Shaw, came in to see me right away and took great care of me for the 4 hours I was in the ER while they conducted a CT scan and ultrasound which indicated to the radiologist that the problem was an ovarian cyst. Dr. Shaw felt it was something more than that with the pain I was experiencing and consulted with the GYN on call, Dr. Thomas Pearson. They consulted and decided that exploratory surgery was needed. It was appendicitis and Dr. Pearson and Dr.Travis Methvin worked together to remove the ovarian cyst and appendix. Great team work at OCH!
